Mr. Phillip Cynar

Philip Cynar, who assumed the role of supply organist/choir director on Ash Wednesday 2006, is now the parish’s permanent organist/choir director. A church musician by avocation, Philip brings more than 20 years of experience to Holy Cross. Most recently he served for nearly 10 years as organist/music director at St. Michael and All Angels’ Lutheran Church in Spring Garden. Prior to that he was organist/choirmaster at Hazelwood’s historically Anglo-Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd.

Web Site Guy's Note:
I have been singing choir since I was 13, and I am presently 43. I have sung in many choirs sacred, military and secular, and have had an opportunity to learn choral singing from many directors. Phil is one of the best directors I have ever worked with. He has a tremendous knowledge of music, He is an excellent teacher, gifted with seemingly limitless patience, is willing to learn a form of music that is very unfamiliar to him i.e. African American Church Music ,and he has gained the confidence of the choir members. If there is anymore concrete evidence that God does answer prayer it would be how He brought Phil and Holy Cross together. All I can say is: If he's this good with music as an avocation, imagine how much better he'd be if here were a professional.
